Indiana summers put mosquitoes in every yard with a shady corner and a little standing water. Citronella candles and bug zappers do not change that. A barrier treatment does, because it treats the places mosquitoes actually spend their day instead of the air they fly through.
Why Your Yard Has Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes rest during the day under leaves, in dense shrubs, under decks, and in shaded, damp corners. They breed in standing water: clogged gutters, birdbaths, plant saucers, tarps, tire swings, kiddie pools, and low spots that hold rain. A female can lay hundreds of eggs in a bottle cap of water, and the cycle from egg to biting adult takes about a week in July heat.
Diseases They Carry
West Nile virus is present in Indiana every summer and is the main mosquito-borne concern for people here. Mosquitoes also transmit heartworm to dogs and cats, which is why year-round heartworm prevention is standard veterinary advice in this state. Fewer mosquitoes in the yard means less exposure for the whole household.
First treatment $29. No contracts.
Mosquito Assassin quotes your property from the address, no visit required, and gets you on the schedule. Each treatment lasts about 21 days. If mosquitoes bother you between treatments, they come back and re-treat at no charge.
How Barrier Treatment Works
- Quote from your address. Property size is measured from mapping data, so you get a price without a sales visit.
- Targeted treatment. A licensed technician treats shrubs, mulch beds, under decks, low tree canopy, and the shaded areas where mosquitoes rest. It takes about 20 minutes for a typical yard.
- Larvae and standing water. The technician looks for breeding sites, neutralizes larvae where found, and tells you what to empty or fix.
- Dry in 30 minutes. Stay inside during the treatment, then get back to your yard. Once dry, the product stays on the foliage where the mosquitoes are.
- Protected for 21 days. Microencapsulated product releases gradually. A text the day before each visit keeps the cycle going through the season, with 7 to 9 visits recommended per year.
Special Events, HOAs, and Businesses
One-time treatments before an outdoor wedding, party, or reunion are available, along with programs for restaurant patios, apartment communities, HOA common areas, campgrounds, and golf courses. Commercial and HOA pricing is quoted per property, often at a group discount.
What You Can Do
- Dump standing water weekly: saucers, birdbaths, buckets, toys, gutters, and tarps.
- Keep grass short and shrubs trimmed so there is less shade for resting mosquitoes.
- Fix low spots that hold rain for more than a few days.
- Talk to your neighbors. A treated yard next to an untreated breeding site still gets visitors, but the barrier handles most of them.
Mosquitoes Questions
Mosquito Assassin, our sister brand under the same ownership. Same office and phone number, with technicians and equipment dedicated to mosquito and tick barrier treatments.
The first treatment is $29 for new residential customers on properties up to a half acre, then $83 per visit every 21 days. A season pass paid in full by May 1 is $549. Larger properties, commercial accounts, and HOAs are quoted individually.
The products are pyrethroids, synthetic versions of the compound in chrysanthemum flowers, applied to foliage rather than lawns or garden beds. Everyone stays inside for about 30 minutes while it dries. An all-natural repellent option is available for properties with large vegetable gardens or ponds.
Yes. The same barrier treatment applied to the edges of the yard, tall grass, and brush reduces ticks along with mosquitoes.
Once the product has dried, about 30 minutes, rain does not wash it off. If a treatment is compromised by weather, Mosquito Assassin re-treats at no charge.
